Film Credits, Film Listings and Verification Policy

Last updated Nollywood CV Limited · www.nollywoodcv.com

How films, film credits, production companies and posters are added to NollywoodCV, who may change them, how mistakes and duplicates are corrected, and what it means when a film or credit has been checked.

Key terms

Film
Any production on NollywoodCV, such as a feature film, series, short film or documentary, identified by its title and year.
Film page
The public page for a film, showing its details and the people credited on it.
Credit
A line on a member's CV saying they worked on a film, in a stated role (and, for actors, a character).
Film maker
A member credited as producer, director or executive producer of that film.
Production company
The company named as making a film. Each company has its own page listing its films.

How a film page is created

Film pages are built from members' credits. There is no separate "submit a film" form.

  • When you add a credit, NollywoodCV suggests matching films as you type, showing title, year, company, genre and type. Pick the right one, or choose "Not this film" to add it as a new film.
  • A film page exists from the first credit. It fills up as more people add credits and as film makers add details.
  • Titles are formatted consistently (for example, capital letters).
  • To limit mistakes and spam, a member can add up to 10 new films a day.
  • Every new film appears in NollywoodCV's "New films" list for review.

Adding and managing your credits

  • Free members can show one film credit on their profile. Premium members can add, edit and remove as many credits as they need.
  • On a film page, a Premium member can use "Were you in this film?" to add the film to their own CV at once.
  • Deleting a credit removes it from your CV. The film page stays, because other people may be credited on it.
  • If Premium ends, extra credits are hidden from the public, not deleted. They show again when you renew.
  • Executive Producer credits earned through a Fund My Film campaign are added only when the donor confirms them (see the Crowdfunding and Donations Policy (Fund My Film)).

Tagging other people

A Premium member who is credited on a film can tag co-stars and crew who were also on it (up to 20 tags a day). The person tagged receives a notification and decides:

  • Yes: the credit is added to their CV and the member who tagged them is told.
  • No: the tag quietly disappears. The member who tagged them is not told.

A free member who already has their one credit is asked to upgrade before accepting a tag. Tag only people you actually worked with.

Same titles, series and duplicate films

  • Same title, same year: treated as one film.
  • Same title, different year: treated as different films, shown as, for example, "Ije (2010)". NollywoodCV checks these, because they may be different films or a mistake in the year.
  • Series: NollywoodCV can join the seasons or years of a series under one main page.
  • Duplicates: when two pages are the same film, NollywoodCV merges them. Every credit moves to the remaining page, the title and year on each CV are made the same, and the old page address sends visitors to the new one.

Film details, posters and watch links

  • Film details (story, type, genres, company and place) can be added by a Premium film maker of that film, or by NollywoodCV. Details already filled in are not overwritten automatically by later credits.
  • Posters can be uploaded only by a Premium film maker of that film (at most 5 a day, up to 1 MB after automatic resizing). The first poster appears at once. Any later change waits for NollywoodCV's approval. Every poster ever used is kept in the film's poster history.
  • You may upload a poster only if you have the right to use it (see the Copyright and Intellectual Property Policy).
  • Watch link: a film page shows one "Watch" button. It uses the link set by NollywoodCV for that film if there is one; otherwise the producer's own link from their credit, then the director's, then the executive producer's. Links must lead to a legal copy of the film.

Production companies

  • Company names are matched without common endings such as "Ltd", "Limited", "Nig." or "Inc", so "Starlight Pictures Ltd" and "Starlight Pictures" become one company.
  • A company page lists the company's films and the people who worked on them, built from credits.
  • A film is linked to a company through its film makers' credits or by NollywoodCV.
  • Company pages are part of the film database. They are not accounts, and they do not mean the company has joined or approved NollywoodCV. A company that wants its page corrected can contact us.

What NollywoodCV checks, and what "listed" means

A credit is the member's own statement. NollywoodCV does not check every credit against contracts or the film itself, and a film page appearing on NollywoodCV does not mean NollywoodCV has confirmed every detail on it.

  • Listed: the film exists on NollywoodCV because at least one member credited it.
  • Checked by NollywoodCV: a person at NollywoodCV has reviewed the film record (its title, year and details) and approved it. Approval is about the film record, not each person's credit.
  • Confirmed by more than one person: when two or more different members credit the same film, it is treated as more reliable.
  • Confirmed by both people: a credit added through an accepted tag was confirmed by the person tagged and the person who tagged them.
  • Until a film has been checked by NollywoodCV or credited by two different members, search engines are asked not to list its page.

NollywoodCV does not verify the identity of members (except Fund My Film filmmakers), and there is no "verified" badge for profiles. Recruiters should make their own checks before relying on a credit.

Reporting and correcting mistakes

  • Your own credit: edit or delete it in Dashboard → Film Credits.
  • A film or company page: any signed-in member can use "Report wrong details" (up to 3 reports a day). NollywoodCV reviews each report, fixes or dismisses it, and the reporter receives a notification.
  • A false credit on someone else's profile, or someone claiming your work: email info@nollywoodcv.com with the page addresses and any evidence. We may ask both members for proof and remove a credit that cannot be supported.

Rules for credits and film information

  • Add only real productions and only roles you actually performed.
  • Use the film's real title and release or production year.
  • Do not create duplicate films on purpose, or change details to promote yourself or harm others.
  • Do not upload posters or link to copies of films you have no right to share.

Breaking these rules can lead to removal of credits, loss of film-page actions, or account action under the Community Guidelines and Acceptable Use Policy.

Who appears on a film page

A person appears on a film page only when that credit is visible on their own profile: the account is active, and the credit is either the one credit a free member shows, or part of a Premium profile or a profile kept by NollywoodCV. When a person's credit is hidden or deleted, they no longer appear on the film page, but the film page itself stays.
